Firing technique where the bowls or dishes are fired face down resting on their unglazed rims. The entire unglazed rim rests on the support.
The term is "fu shao" (覆烧), which translates to "inverted firing" or "upside-down firing," is where the porcelain is fired with its rim down and its foot up. This method will give a slightly rough top rim due to the contact with the kiln furniture.
In Chinese ceramic history there are a number of various saggars (protective firing capsules) where a number of shelves facilitate the placing and firing several bowls on top of each other.
