GLOSSARY

Chambers, Sir William (1723-96)

A highly distinguished English architect. Born in Sweden of Scottish parents, he traveled widely and trained as an architect in Paris and Rome before settling in 1755 in London, where he was tutor in architecture to George, Prince of Wales, later George III (r.1760-1811). Contributing to popularize the Chinoiserie.
