GLOSSARY

Spriggs

Small low-relief, press molded ornaments applied onto the unfired body of a ceramic ware and attached by a thin slip. In Chinese pottery this occurs on Tang dynasty wares. In the West, Wedgewood are known for their use of white clay spriggs on their Jasper range of ware. Wedgwood's spriggs are usually in a white clay, while the pot itself is blue.
