Certificate of Authenticity
One of many questions I get is if I can issue 'Certificates of Authenticity'. Since I am very hesitant to do so I will take the opportunity to explain why.
Personally I think that if you are a collector you will want to have a facts page or some kind of registration document with a picture, of what you have. That is a natural and interesting part of any collection. A 'Certificate of Authenticity' is different. While a register card or document can summarize a number of collectors and experts thoughts and opinions on a piece, a CoA is the opinion of only one. Unfortunately again these kinds of papers are to me mostly associated with pieces of doubtful character that somehow needs a paper to boost its claims.
However uncomfortable I feel regarding CoA's, I can see the purpose for them as a documentation to send along with a gift or maybe as a starting point for your own documentation and research.
I will then promise to keep a happy face and to do this work for you at a fee of $25 per CoA. Please contact me via email about the details.
The Certificate will be printed on antique colored stock and signed.
Please notice that a Certificate of Authenticity is for gift or your personal documentation only and is only valid between you and me. You cannot use this Certificate for resale purposes, since there are no way for me or you, to guarantee which object eventually in the future will accompany the document after it has shifted hands a few times and this will eventually look funny and have a negative influence on my reputation.
